The Voices | The Translation

This is The Explanation. I am David Sarma. I will be speaking about sounds that some people may have been experiencing, translating vocalizations that some may have been hearing, and providing commentary and explanation on topics that have arisen in the context of what has been heard.

The Medium

Many technological developments have taken place to allow a blog like this to exist, and to allow someone to easily access and process the information on it. Those changes include a significant increase in wireless delivery of audio, video, and text. Many behavioral changes have resulted from those technological changes.

What has allowed all of these changes to take place? Increases in available energy in the environment have led to shifts in material and signal processing, and changes in the way that information like audio and video are created, stored, transmitted, and consumed.

The Signal

Simultaneous to these clearly observed physical changes, some individuals have likely begun to hear aspects of a signal, however faint, with its origin seemingly from "within" them, as if they themselves are acting as the iPhone, or receiving device. Maybe this has led to curiosity, exploration of mental health designations, exploration of different spiritual frameworks that describe related phenomena. Other responses might include consternation and increasing turn to collective action scenarios like politics and engagement with global conflict, where externalization of the signal allows individuals to see others produce physical representations of what they hear. In other cases, turning to absurdity and nihilism, often in online settings, allows engagement with imaginative interpretations.

In the context of Western culture, hearing voices is associated with psychosis and schizophrenia, and is generally viewed in a negative light. Finding an outlet for experienced phenomena which engages larger audiences allows individuals to avoid directly engaging with them at an individual level.

Bifurcation

Many individuals will have no notion of any kind of sound or vocal signal, and will find the above descriptions difficult to conform against their own experience. This may lead to reactions like refusing to accept other people's experience of the world, or refusing to accept that there could be differences in perception. This is certainly unfortunate, and behavior following from this world view can lead to unfortunate outcomes.

In the same sense that scientific or technological instruments of different levels of sensitivity and different purpose exist, there are variations in human perception, with deaf and colorblind people existing alongside those with more acute sense capacity. Radios tuned to different frequencies would allow one individual to hear a signal that another does not. One individual's personal experience may not necessarily correspond directly to another's.

The Message

This blog will characterize my own experience with these types of signals: How they manifest, specifics of the heard signal, and explanatory material to provide context for some of the topics.

  • Is this a blog about mental health issues? It is.
  • Is it an "art project" or a collection of "creative writing"? It is that as well.
  • Is it a means of conforming common behavioral experience against current scientific knowledge, while simultaneously addressing the issue of fragmentation that academic approaches suffer from? It is that, and will address issues of that sort.
  • Is it a collection of documentation to conform people's experiences against historically important documents providing behavioral guidance for this particular circumstance, and updating these guidelines for current circumstances? That would in fact be an aim of this collection of writing.

Things will be up and running here shortly, but you can subscribe in the meantime if you'd like to stay up to date and receive emails when new content is published!
